Overview of the Library Staff Education Program
The University Library is committed to staff education for all employees in the Library system. Training provides Library staff with the skills required to meet the challenge of keeping pace with changing user needs, mastering new and more complex technologies, and adapting to a work environment characterized by innovation and change. The Administrative Council, in endorsing this commitment to staff education and development, has approved at least fifty hours of training per year for each staff member. The Staff Education and Development Program was developed to meet this goal.
The responsibility for training and development in the Library
is shared by the Staff Education Coordinator, the supervisor,
and the individual staff member:
- The supervisor develops orientation programs for new employees
and, as part of the evaluation process, individual learning
plans for all staff under his/her supervision. Learning plans
may include job-specific training available intra- or interdepartmentally
and/or classes provided through the Staff Education and Development
curriculum.
- The individual staff member follows the learning plan developed by his/her supervisor, identifies other training needs, and registers for the necessary classes and any requisite follow-up sessions.
